Pottsville Fishing Club

Club Rules
Fish sizes and bag limits
Fish weighed in must adhere to the minimum size limits and bag limits set by the club and/or NSW DPI. No species shall exceed the NSW DPI bag limit. Size is measured as Total Length; from the point of the nose to the longest point of the tail. Click the PDF below to see the full list of species size limits and points.
Point scoring system
From 2024, the Pottsville Fishing Club has implemented a point scoring system to encourage angler versatility, but to also promote conservation of our key recreational species. Bag and size limits for each species remain the same as in previous years, and anglers are still awarded points for total bag weight (at 10 points per kg). Each fish, regardless of species, is awarded 1 point before the application of a species diversity “multiplier”, which doubles the points for fish representing each additional species.
Simply, 1 point is awarded for each fish representing the first species (e.g., Bream), 2 points per fish for the second species (e.g., whiting), 4 points per fish for the third species (e.g., dart), 8 points per fish for the fourth species (e.g., flathead), and points continue to double for each additional species. If an angler catches 10 species, for example, this is a value of 512 points per fish, so clearly it’s an advantage to be able to catch several species rather than many of the same species.
The order of species is determined by the species with the highest number of fish receiving the lowest number of points. Any species tied for number of fish are then ranked by highest to lowest weight. The table below is a breakdown of the scoring system for a hypothetical catch containing 9 species: bream, dart, whiting, flathead, tailor, mulloway, mangrove jack, luderick, and mullet.

A Member's total point score shall be calculated by adding points for numbers of fish (including species diversity multipliers), total catch weight, plus a 10 point sign-on bonus.
Points shall be deducted for undersized fish as: 1 undersized fish = 25-point penalty per fish, 2 undersized fish = 50-point penalty, 3 or more = entire catch bag disqualification and no points awarded.
